Nature on the island of Rügen gifts us with Rügen’s healing chalk, a precious treasure for health, wellness and beauty. With that said, we actually use a material that was created about 70 million years ago. During the Cretaceous, a broad, shellow shelf sea, the „chalk sea“, covered a large area of land. In this sea, chalk originated from the sedimentation of tiny fragments of calcareous shells of different marine organisms. This process was a particularly slow one: in 1000 years about 3.5 cm of chalk were formed.
